Liquidware Brings Greater Visibility to Cloud, Virtual and Physical Desktops

Mon, 2017-08-28 22:17

Major release of monitoring and diagnostics solution offers scalability, dashboard builder, new supported client operating systems and application strategy features

August 29, 2017 - Las Vegas - VMware VMworld - Booth #1126 - Liquidware today announced Stratusphere™ UX 6.0, a user experience monitoring and diagnostics solution for desktops and virtual workspaces. The latest version of the solution will include major architectural enhancements to support scalability, a dashboard builder, support for new client devices, and reporting to facilitate application virtualization and strategy with FlexApp layering.

"With this release of Stratusphere UX, we now have key architectural elements in place to extend and enhance our capabilities to provide greater workspace visibility," said David Bieneman, CEO and co-founder, Liquidware. "Our focus on the enterprise workspace provides a solution that not only scales, but offers higher-availability to support the needs of our customers' growing environments."

"As organizations extend their workspaces beyond physical PCs-to include on-premises and cloud-based virtual workspaces-the need to view a user persistently across all platforms has also increased," noted Kevin Dralle, Solutions Architect at Presidio. "Whether Citrix, VMware or full-on local Windows, the visibility provided by Stratusphere UX is unparalleled. And with the increased enterprise functionality, an already great solution just got better."

Attributes to Better Support the Enterprise

Stratusphere UX has always been at home in large environments. This major release will introduce a new Highly Scalable Architecture, which will significantly increase the amount of user, machine and application data Stratusphere can capture for visibility. Major architectural changes include the addition of a distributed Collector Appliance, for the aggregation and collection of Stratusphere Connector ID Key (an extremely lightweight in-guest agent) data and network data.

In-Guest Visibility Extended

In addition to supporting all major versions of Microsoft Windows and Linux distributions, this release of Stratusphere UX will add support for Apple OS X (El Capitan) and macOS (Sierra). Many existing customers have noted the importance of Apple workspace visibility. This release brings that machine and associated user and application views to Stratusphere UX.

Release 6.0 of Stratusphere UX also will include formal support for Windows Server 2016 and a native Connector ID Key for IGEL OS™-based clients (https://www.igel.com/), which offers organizations greater visibility into the end-user desktop computing experience for IGEL-based client devices; allowing them to better monitor and manage user experience and performance.

All About the Applications

We’re very excited to help advance application strategy with a couple of new core application-based reports and metrics. New to Stratusphere UX 6.0 is an application layering candidates report. This report provides analysis and detail to assist in the identification of applications that may be good candidates to deliver via Liquidware’s application layering technology, FlexApp. For each identified application, Stratusphere UX will provide a complexity score and rating that is based on the use of elements such as whether the application employs shell extensions or uses COM/DCOM for its operations-critical factors to consider when contemplating application delivery.

The Stratusphere UX 6.0 release will also include an applications strategy assessment report, which offers a starting point for administrators looking to devise a comprehensive application strategy. This report provides basic inventory information as well as application counts, where an application is run and the resources consumed. It provides details on applications services and offers an application complexity rating and recommendation whether it should be distributed in the base image, or using an application layering approach like Liquidware FlexApp.

To better support the application lifecycle, Stratusphere UX 6.0 will also include new application-specific GPU metrics. Based on a partnership with NVIDIA and its software development kit, Stratusphere UX adds to its NVIDIA GRID visibility with new application-specific encode, decode, frame buffer and graphics utilization metrics. GPU can play a significant role in the delivery of virtual desktop workspaces, and the combination of Liquidware Stratusphere UX and NVIDIA Tesla GPU cards offer a solution designed to support the monitoring, diagnostics as well as to visibility to support application optimization and health.

Liquidware ProfileUnity and FlexApp v6.7 Delivers Improved Desktop Readiness

Mon, 2017-08-07 10:00

Includes exclusive On-Demand “Click-to-Layer” Option and per Session App Layering for Citrix XenApp/Microsoft RDSH

CHICAGO, IL - August 7, 2017 – Liquidware today announced the availability of ProfileUnity and FlexApp v6.7, its industry leading User Environment Management (UEM) and Application Layering software for Windows desktops and virtual workspaces. Significant features have been added to both ProfileUnity’s core UEM functionality as well as to FlexApp layering.

"We’ve packed more advancements into this release – more than in any other in the last three years and more than competing vendors," said Jason Mattox, CTO of Liquidware. "Customer feedback has driven us to ‘outdo’ ourselves and the competition, to provide premium performance and functionality for enterprises adopting on-premises and cloud-based virtual workspaces, as well as wider use of user environment management and layering use on physical desktops."

New FlexApp Features

New features include exclusive Click-to-Layer capabilities, and Citrix XenApp/Microsoft RDSH session isolation for FlexApps.

FlexApp’s new on-demand Click-to-Layer option is an industry first. The technology allows instant delivery of FlexApp layered applications on-demand upon the application open action by a user. The user simply clicks on the application’s native icon on the Desktop or in the Start Menu and the application is instantly delivered via FlexApp and is ready for use. The option improves desktop readiness times compared to other layer delivery options because applications are not mounted unless they are in use. Now even dozens of layered applications can now be readily available in a user’s Windows environment without needing to actually layer every available application that may not be used during a user’s session.

Citrix XenApp and Microsoft RDSH environments now have enhanced FlexApp delivery support in the new version as well through Session Layers. When FlexApp applications are delivered to a user’s published desktop, other user desktop environments are not automatically exposed to those applications. Every user’s desktop can remain unique, even for users on the same Windows Server environment. This approach allows individual applications to be layered to XenApp/RDSH servers rather than be published, allowing for more dynamic application delivery with lower maintenance.

New ProfileUnity Features

ProfileUnity’s ProfileDisk feature has been extended to Citrix XenApp and Microsoft RDSH environments. ProfileUnity is the only UEM solution to offer a ProfileDisk technology with granular management of profile Portability features, giving customers the best of both worlds. ProfileDisk acts as a profile container that handles large profiles with ease, such as those with Microsoft Office 365/Outlook caches. VHD profile containers also remain an option to handle Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Amazon, and other cloud-based storage caching which may be otherwise too intensive for virtual desktops.

ProfileUnity’s core management console, which also manages and entitles FlexApp layering, has also been updated to include full featured role-based access and auditing. Options include full Administrator, Department, and even feature-specific role access and limitations. Large enterprises with multiple departments or specific job responsibilities, such as application administrators and desktop support staff, now have options to entitle console users with specific access and rights. This new feature enables enterprise ProfileUnity deployments to remain secure while providing staff with the rights they need to perform their job.

The ProfileUnity Management Console also now performs active auditing by user. This feature enables lead ProfileUnity administrators to have a fully automated change control process and documentation. The new active auditing feature is especially helpful for organizations that must meet compliance and security guidelines.

"With the plethora of options available to enterprises to provision workspaces for their users, Liquidware continues to provide innovative solutions to enable quicker desktop readiness," commented Robert Young, Research Director, IDC, IT Service Management and Client Virtualization Software. "It is vital for enterprises to respond to inadequacies in user experience, as we see business users increasingly driving requirements from IT. Liquidware mitigates many of these inadequacies by providing IT with relevant tools to increase performance and functionality within end user computing."

ProfileUnity and FlexApp v6.7 are readily available for download for current customers and organizations wishing to evaluate the solution at www.Liquidware.com/download
