Liquidware Delivers on Promise to Host Application Layers in the Cloud Natively, with New ProfileUnity and FlexApp v6.8

Mon, 2018-12-03 17:07

Multi-cloud support, including Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, eliminates file share requirement, enables simple public multi-cloud consumption

Chicago, Ill. - Dec. 04, 2018 - Liquidware, the leader in adaptive workspace management, today announced the release of Liquidware ProfileUnity and FlexApp v6.8 with new industry-first features, including FlexApp layering support for object-based cloud storage (Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure), and FlexApp Cloud Apps – turnkey pre-packaged cloud-hosted app layers that are ready for use.

Until now, Server Message Block (SMB) file shares have been a requirement of application layering solutions for hosting the delivery of applications. SMB file shares require servers and operating systems for the purpose of making a file share available to host layers. FlexApp is the industry’s first solution to support object-based cloud storage APIs natively, thus eliminating the complexity of maintaining servers in the cloud for file shares. FlexApp Cache is also an industry-first feature being introduced to lend high-availability of layers on less than dependable networks.

Native support for multi-cloud services provides further benefits to organizations that use FlexApp to layer applications, by providing a seamless transition to cloud-based DaaS (Desktop as a Service), delivering built-in high-availability, and lowering storage costs.

"Companies are increasingly embracing multi-cloud/hybrid-cloud strategies," said Shannon Kalvar, IDC Research Manager. "This shift makes it imperative for application virtualization vendors to technically enable this strategic direction in a seamless fashion."

A summary of the new features in ProfileUnity and FlexApp v6.8 reveals:

  • FlexApp Support for Cloud – FlexApp now supports saving and hosting application layers to object-based storage with multi-cloud support, including Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
  • FlexApp Caching – FlexApp applications now start immediately as blocks of data continue to load from the cloud or SMB. Benefits include faster execution of apps and enhanced FlexApp stability on unreliable networks.
  • FlexApp Cloud Apps – FlexApp now features over a dozen pre-packaged cloud-hosted applications. These apps are ready to deploy for pilot projects and easily cloned for production environments.
  • FlexApp Application Layering Support for Amazon AppStream – FlexApp enables one AppStream server to publish multiple applications, minimizing the number of base images and servers used to deliver AppStream applications.
  • Licensing Server – ProfileUnity and FlexApp’s management console will now act as a licensing server to enable true concurrent license models. Benefits include accurate in-use ProfileUnity and FlexApp license counts, especially helpful in healthcare, government, and education.
  • Faster ProfileUnity and FlexApp client execution – startup of the agent has been streamlined, reducing login times for most customers by several seconds.

"Our FlexApp layering solution has led with many industry firsts since its introduction seven years ago," said Jason E. Smith, VP of Product Marketing, Liquidware. "With the advent of object-based cloud storage for FlexApp layers, the innovation in this release is game-changing. Through the use of API-level integration, ProfileUnity and FlexApp enable organizations to easily consume cloud storage while delivering multiple benefits for the enterprise. FlexApp again delivers industry firsts with new functionality, and is moreover multi-cloud ready with support for all three major public clouds, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon S3, and Google Cloud."

In related news earlier this year, Liquidware ProfileUnity became the first User Environment Management solution to leverage object-based storage for user profiles. User profiles, from native cloud without the use of SMB, offer similar benefits to customers by readying them for seamless DaaS transitions, providing built-in high availability from multi-clouds, and lowering the cost of storage.

Liquidware FlexApp / ProfileUnity Support Amazon AppStream

Tue, 2018-11-27 09:10

Liquidware Products streamlines AppStream management and drives greater efficiencies for desktop migrations to Amazon’s EUC platforms

Las Vegas, Amazon re:Invent, Nov. 27, 2018 — Liquidware, the leader in adaptive workspace management, today announced support for Amazon AppStream via its FlexApp, Application Layering, and ProfileUnity, User Environment Management products. With this announcement, comes the expansion of the already deep functionality of these products that have contributed to making Liquidware the last independent platform-agnostic player in a market segment dominated by giants.

Liquidware FlexApp is now the first application layering solution to support Amazon AppStream.  In doing so, the product greatly streamlines the management thereof, and drives down costs down for users. FlexApp achieves these operational and cost savings by allowing administrators to leverage a single Windows Server base image to deliver multiple applications.  This approach eliminates the need to constantly update the base image or affect user productivity with application updates. FlexApp layered applications are not installed to the base image of the AppStream Windows Server, but instead are layered onto the server, where they look, react, and feel as if they were installed.

FlexApp and ProfileUnity are both equipped with the ability to migrate profiles and applications to cloud-based storage, including, among others, Amazon S3. This function enables users to reap critical efficiency benefits during desktop migrations to cloud platforms like Amazon AppStream and Amazon WorkSpaces. In this adoption process, FlexApp layers moreover provide a singular delivery mechanism from a highly available S3 bucket.

"FlexApp and ProfileUnity’s support for Amazon AppStream delivers crucial benefits for enterprise customers seeking to adopt and integrate with Amazon’s EUC platforms, by driving greater efficiency before, during and after the adoption process," explained Jason E. Smith, VP of Product Marketing, Liquidware. "Support for AppStream has unlocked additional, rich functionality in both products. FlexApp application layers and ProfileUnity user environment management have evolved to play a strategic role in application strategy and user management for organizations looking to explore Amazon’s EUC solutions."

"IDC research clearly shows that the migration to ‘the cloud’ is, increasingly and persistently, a migration into a multi-cloud and hybrid public/private cloud environment," said Shannon Kalvar, Research Manager at IDC. "Management products must evolve to include both rich integration with specific vendors and broad-based support across cloud stacks."

Leading UK Legal Firm Achieves In-Depth Monitoring and Diagnostics for VDI Estate with Liquidware Stratusphere UX

Wed, 2018-10-03 10:36

Increased Visibility into Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Yields Significant Business and Productivity Improvements

LONDON, UK. - IP EXPO October 3, 2018 - Liquidware, the leading third-party provider of platform-agnostic end-user computing solutions, today announced the UK leader of legal expenses insurance, DAS, has become a customer with their recent procurement of Stratusphere UX, Liquidware’s user experience monitoring and diagnostics solution.

Darren Perry, EUC Manager, DAS UK Group, commented "Since implementing VDI in 2014 we have lacked the ability to drill into the Operating System to pinpoint issues, measure trends and create meaningful reports on our endpoints." The main catalyst for seeking a solution was a period of performance issues for a regional office’s staff that was suffering with slow logons and inadequate performance in general. "As project lead for our VDI implementation, I have much experience in our environment and was aware of where things have gone well and not so well. While I was pretty sure what was the root cause, I didn’t have the ability to measure process hits, affected applications, logon times etc. Stratusphere UX achieves all this and more for DAS."

After discussing the requirements and running a pilot with ComputerWorld, a Liquidware Acceler8 Partner, DAS has purchased Stratusphere UX licenses for their head office and one of their regional office VDI data centres. VDI users are the initial use case, but DAS will be extending Stratusphere UX across their VMware Mirage fleet of physical desktops and laptops in due course.

DAS has a number of new EUC initiatives where they see Stratusphere UX providing benefits to their business, namely:

  • Support for planning an expansion of their VDI estate
  • The on-boarding of VDI from home
  • Working with their more complex (High Performance) desktops
  • Windows 10 testing and on-boarding
  • Scaling the environment
  • A real time dashboard for BAU (business as usual) incidents and alerts so they are ahead of the game should an issue arise – fix it before it’s a problem!
  • Monthly KPI reports
  • Troubleshooting for users who have reported issues from a previous date, pulling historical info will prove useful when working on longer standing issues
  • Measuring Network and SAN performance during an issue

Liquidware is exhibiting at this year’s IP Expo and can be found in the Citrix Pavilion at Stand K24 where they will be demonstrating not only Stratusphere UX but also their market-leading workspace management solution, ProfileUnity and application layering solution, FlexApp.
